Negroni Three Ways

There are so many things to love about autumn: the weather, the seasonal flavors, the spiced everything. But one of my favorite things is the opportunity to reconnect with old friends.

There are a lot of parties and gatherings during this season, and what better way to celebrate than with a classic cocktail like the Negroni?

It’s a drink that was born in Italy, but has since found its way across the globe and into our hearts. Invented in Florence by Count Camillo Negroni (1868–1935), this classic cocktail is composed of Campari, sweet vermouth, and gin. The Count requested his favorite cocktail be given an extra dose of bitter Campari while at Florian’s Bar Caffè Livia in Florence. It was then named after him- the only time he ordered it under his name.

The original recipe called for equal parts Campari and Gin with dry Vermouth added to taste- but over time new variations have been created, including: Punt e Mes Negroni: A 1/2 part Punt e Mes replaces the Dry Verlhied; Americano Negroni: A 1/4 part Gran Marnier replaces the Sweet Vermouth; Chocolaty Negroni.

I like to finish some of my drinks with a chocolate drop, except for this one which gets a chocolate square because it tastes so good! Grab your favorite glassware and get mixing!

The beauty of this cocktail is that you can choose any variation you like depending on what flavors you’re craving. If you love bitter flavors try adding more Campari; if you want something more balanced go for less Campari; if you want it sweeter add more sweet vermouth. There are so many ways to make this drink yours! What’s your favorite way to enjoy a Negroni? Here are some of mine…

For dark spirits with rich flavor AND sweetness Add:

2 oz each Gin & Vodka (or similar)
